Dear classmates,

in order to view properly phonetic symbols in word processing programs (MS Word and others), you must install the IPA font(s) on your computer, is an easy operation.

The attachment of this e-mail contains the font file (ip876763, “Ipa-sams Uclphon1 SILSophiaL (True Type)” ); altough there are a lot of fonts in the character set, I only use this one.
Save it in any place or directory you normally use to receive downloads and later put in the directory c:\windows\fonts, and Windows operating system will detect what you want to do and will install the font. Then, if you open any word processing program such as Microsoft Word, you can find this font in the appropiate font menu (hey: you will see in the font menu “Ipa-sams Uclphon1 SILSophiaL”, and not “ip876763” this is only the file name).
In some rare cases is necessary restart the computer.

ENVIRONMENT

I think climate changes is a very important thing! In my opinion we should trust all the information that the radio, tv channels, internet,… are giving us.

I´m saying this because not everybody believes what is really happening. I mean: some people think that this is not true, that the Earth is only changing into a new age, like “the dinosaur age” a long time ago. If we don´t do whatever is in our hands quickly, everything will disappear for worse…

I don´t really think that people are doing anything to change the damage that our planet is suffering. And the problem is that they don´t believe this climate is changing, so they´re careless about it.

Before the year started, I made a promise; I must to make an effort for the world. Also sometimes I do the following:

– At home, reducing the heating temperature to medium when I´m cold..

– Trying to turn off the engine of my car when I stopped.

– Keeping my cooked oil in a separate bottle.

And so on… But as days go by, I noticed that I´m a different person as far as

Climate changes is concerned.

The importance of the environment.

If we pay attention at how often we hear about climate change in the mass media, it should be considered one of the major problems in our days. When almost all the countries in the world work together to find out a solution, this means a big problem. But, it does not seem such an important problem for our politicians, since not too much was said about this on the debate, broadcasted yesterday, between the main candidates to the presidency of the country. If we understand that they both were trying to convince us, we can suppose they would speak about the things that worry us, then, they lack of interest in this important issue is reflecting ours. Or do we all do selective wasting at home?

THE PROBLEM OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE ELECTIONS

I think climate change is a very important problem nowadays and not many people are really concerned about it. For example, our politicians are not really aware and don’t talk enough about it, regarding the importance it has or should have. But in my opinion this has an important reason: people think there are other matters that are more important, as for example mortgages, work, terrorism, … And politicians see that these matters can yield better results than talking about climate change, and at the end, this is what they want: votes.

On the other hand, this is an international problem. If one country does a lot for the environment, but there are 50 others that don’t do anything or very little, of course it helps, as every little action counts, but if this doesn’t really get the importance it needs, countries won’t take it as seriously as it has to be taken.

As I see it, internationally regarded, although this problem should become a really important matter, I don’t have too much hope in it, because money, wealth and business are in this moment more important. And despite the fact that more and more people are concerned about it, not a lot of them are prepared to change their lives as they should contribute in some measure to protecting our environment. So we are faced with a really big question that has a very sad future. In some years we and our children are going to pay for all this, but we are too self-centred and also too optimistic (we think for example: “this won’t be so tragic as they say”), to do anything, or at least, enough. And the persons that rule the countries should be the first to make us see the importance this really has.

It is said that people are more and more  aware of recycling, but  I do not think so.

Day by day, we are improving but not as much as I would like it.  It is true that in too many places they still do not have  the appropriate bins of different colours, so it is very easy for people to throw the rubbish away in the same place, as they do not have to think too much where to separate  the different kinds of rubbish  and  they do not waste time doing this thing which is so important for all of us from now on  to improve our future.

 

In these days, I have heard some news on television about recycling plastic bags, it is incredible the amount of bags are used by the big companies, like supermarkets or big departments stores.  It  is said that everybody should be more conscious about this big problem and start using bags made by material.

In some ecological stores have started to sell these kind of bags so people can choose between the plastic ones and the ones made by material.

I think step by step we will  improve, even though, we need to make more efforts in  order to get what everybody expects, a better world
