Does the final consonant duplicate when you add…? March 10, 2015

Before you answer the question, remember: if the answer is “yes” in the 3 magic questions, you double the final consonant. And, if there are more than one syllable and the last one is stressed, ask the 3 magic questions about the last syllable.
THE 3 MAGIC QUESTIONS

1-Does it have only one syllable?
2-Is there only one vowel?
3-Is there only one consonant after that vowel?
1- “er” or “est”
clean
wrong
big
high
deep
thin
thick
fat
2- “ing” (also “ed” for regular verbs)
break
win
walk
stop

mean
claim
jam
hit
heat
forget
begin
accept
visit
