THE FOOD DEBATE January 20, 2014

Filed under: Uncategorized — anagomezgarcia @ 9:13 am

The European Parliament is soon going to debate a change in the legislation affecting food restriction:

1-GMO´s

2-Intensive farming

3-Organic food certification

4-Food fraud

Your group will establish a strategy before a meeting where everybody is going to try to advance their own agenda before the law is drafted.

GROUP A:You lobby for Monsanto. You know that more and more pèople are becoming familiar with the horror stories associated with GMO´s, some of them true like the suicides of Indian peasants who could not afford GMO seeds, some false. You want the media to spread mantras that put GMO´s in a good light: scientific advance that will curb hunger through efficient genetic management vs ignorant fear of new products.

GROUP B: You are a spokesperson for the media. You don´t want media stories to lose credibility and you know that the public is losing faith in papers, radio programmes and tv. There is a lot of manipulation and the average consumer is wary and half cynical about food in particular and politics in general. Listen to the corporations and the minority parties and make your own decisions about the stories you are going to promote in the media.

GROUP C: You represent the interests of the greens and the left party in the European Parliament. You are very worried about the revolving doors that link governments and big companies. You would like critical parties and activists to have a say in important matters but the electoral systems of most countries are difficult obstacles. Try to persuade the media spokesperson to ignore the corporation lobbyists and report their stories more honestly.
