Do we have a sixth sense? We certainly have five: sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. If I see a sweet-smelling rose sticking out of a bush, looking a bit old because it is starting to wither , I may try to pull the stem to take it home, but oh! , its prickles scratch and sting my hand, making me shiver as I try to get upright and back to the road, walking on the tarmac, trying to ignore the pain and the horrible rumbling noise of the traffic: those five senses have given me little pleasure and lots of pain.

But if I imagine the rumbling comes from an angel-lover whispering in my ear and then I see the rainbow, round like a vault in a cathedral, instead of a shipwrecked soul I feel like a cool guy, trendy and triumphant, guessing people´s secrets with a sixth sense.

It is up to us, really. We decide whether we let our senses rule our world or we take arms against our rulers, control our senses and bring down the tyranny.

DARK ROSE

YOU WERE BORN UNDER  HARD TARMAC

AND SOON LEARNED TO GROW

THROUGH AN UNEASY WORLD OF HURDLES

A DRILLING STEM BROKE THE SNOW

I SMELT YOUR  POINTED PRICKLES

I SAW FRAGRANCE ON YOUR SKIN

I TRIED YOUR SPICY COLOURS

I LOOKED BUT DIDN’T SEE

THAT YOUR TOUCH WAS TOO SALTY

YOUR TASTE LOUD UPRIGHT

YOU’RE NOT A POPPY FLOWER

BUT YOU MADE ME ALMOST FLY

ONE SEED BECAME A FLOWER

THE NAME OF MAY WAS ROSE

GENTLE WIND, TEMPEST OF FIRE

SUNNY RAYS ACROSS THE SMOKE

YOU PUZZLED ALL MY SENSES

ROSE, DAY AND NIGHT

PLEASE, DON’T EVER WITHER

BUT YOUR WATER WON’T BE MINE

Could you tell a story beyond the song?

What is the figurative meaning of “hard tarmac”, “world of hurdles” and “snow”?

What synesthesias (mixing different senses(sounds, pictures, smells…)in one phrase) can you find in the song?

What might be the effects of a poppy flower?

Synonym of “die”

INDIGNANT

MAY TWENTY-ELEVEN IN A REAL STRANGE WORLD

THE STREETS ARE CLAIMING NO MORE!

INSANE RULERS! WE’RE YOUR CASH COW

BUT THE SILENT SHOUT THUNDERS

NO UTOPIA BUT DIGNITY AND RESPECT

WE ARE NOT JUST CRUSTY HIPPIES

NO CREEDS, NO STIGMAS. NOR RACE, GENDER, OR AGE

WITHOUT FLAGS, NO COLOURS

WE ARE FUCKIN’ INDIGNANT,

FREE YOUR SOUL! MAKE YOUR COMMITMENT

IT’S UP TO US. WE ARE FUCKIN’ INDIGNANT

WE ARE JUST HUMAN FIGHTING FOR FAIRNESS

THE RICH WILL BE EATEN .WE DEMMAND ACCESS

TIME! TO DO AWAY WITH ALL

AND BUILD A NEW PLANET

IS IT A REAL DEMOCRACY?

OR POWERS THAT BE?

THEY WANNA EVICT YOUR HUMAN RIGHTS

DON’T LET THEM MORTGAGE YOUR LIFE

Do you know what happenned on 15 May 2011 in Spain?

Can you explain the meaning of “cash cow”?

What is “the silent shout”?

Can you mention three “powers that be”?

SOMEONE

SOMEONE ELSE’S FAULT

TOO LATE, TIME IS OVER

IT’S GOT TO BE THIS WAY

A LOT TO LIVE WITH OR WITHOUT YOU

NOW WE RUN AWAY

YOU DIDN’T LOOK TOO HAPPY

BY MY SIDE

I FELT A BIT UNLUCKY

OFTEN MOONING

OVER ANYONE

NO NEED FOR QUESTIONS

TO BE SOLVED

T’ WAS NEVER MINE (YOURS), BUT

SOMEONE ELSE’S FAULT

SOMEONE ELSE’S FAULT

I TURN MY HEAD AROUND

AND SWALLOW A FREE TEAR

NOTHING TO BE SAID

BEFORE MY LITTLE MIRROR

What is happenning?

Explain the meaning of “mooning over anyone”?

What does the author mean by using the expression “before my little mirror”?

Can you describe the author’s feelings?
